This week, we have partnered with Bookroo to celebrate Children’s Book Week (May 1-7th, 2017). The boys have received 2 monthly subscriptions from Bookroo complimentary in order to facilitate my review. All thoughts here are my own, of course!
As a child, I absolutely LOVED reading and my love for books has continued all the way into my adult life. I can still remember all the trips I made to the library as a child, along with all of my favorite books I read and the books I loved enough to buy for my personal collection. The love of reading is something I really hoped to pass onto my children. So when I became a mom, I started reading to Andrew when he was still a tiny baby just a few months old. He has always enjoyed story time. Aidan is not as interested in books as Andrew was, but he is now starting to get excited. One of the things we do is try to make time together as a family to have story time as part of the boys’ bedtime routine. Every night after bath, the boys put on their pj’s, brush their teeth, and pick out a book to read and we sit together on our bed and read together. We have a bookcase in our bedroom where all the “special” books are kept so they both look forward to choosing their book each night.
Reading with your children is SO important! It helps them develop their vocabulary and language skills as well as their imagination and it’s a great way to interact together without the distractions of daily life, screen time, and endless notifications. I think I look forward to story time as much as the boys do because I love that special time we spend together as a family!
When it comes to books for kids, there are so many options! Of course we all have our staple books that most parents buy, but discovering new books and authors is also so much fun! So is getting a package in the mail and opening up presents! So when I heard about the service that Bookroo provides, I knew it would be a perfect fit for our family!
What is Bookroo?
Bookroo is a monthly subscription box that curates fun, high quality books for kids and delivers them right to your door! There are options to choose from based on the age of your children: board books for babies (ages 0-2, which includes 3 books) OR picture books for preschoolers (ages 2-6, which includes 2 books). All of the books we’ve received were nice hard cover books with fun stories and great illustrations.
You can choose from: 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months for your subscription. The longer duration, the more money you save. There’s also an option to send Bookroo as a gift, which is awesome because they already come wrapped up with fun paper that our kids LOVED! All books ship on the first weekend following the 15th of every month. Books are selected by a panel of 12 families attending Stanford University and their combined 22 kids! Learn about the book selection process here. You can also check out past subscription boxes here.
CALLING ALL SUPER READERS!!
Andrew and Aidan absolutely LOVED their Bookroo boxes! We thought we’d have some extra fun since it’s Children’s Book week and dress up like super heroes inspired by their favorite reading cartoon show, Super Why. (Parents, I highly recommend this show for your little ones to learn how to recognize and sound out letters as well as learn to read!) Here are some fun moments from their “unboxing.”
